"Big Blue" Begins 9,000-Nautical-Mile Tow from Wisconsin to Pearl Harbor

A fire broke out in a storage area at the stern of the general cargo vessel Jolyn (3,600 DWT), on the afternoon of May 24 while the vessel was docked at Grevenhofkai in Hamburg's Kuhwerderhafen district.
The ship's crew began fighting the fire before emergency services arrived. Approximately 80 emergency personnel were deployed to the scene. Eight people were seriously injured — six crew members and one firefighter were transported to hospital, while one person received treatment at the scene.
The cause of the fire has not been confirmed. The extent of damage to the vessel has not been publicly disclosed.
Hamburg fire authorities are investigating.
